If you don't already know who Timothée Chalamet is, it's time to find out. The young actor has had an incredibly busy and successful three years. His first starring role in Call Me By Your Name earned him an Oscar nomination for best actor. The nomination made him the youngest nominee in that category in 78 years, at the age of 22. His most recent movie Beautiful Boy almost saw him a second nomination, but he was replaced by Sam Rockwell. The next two years will be big for him, he has four movies releasing. He'll star in the Netflix film The King as King Henry V, as Laurie in Greta Gerwig's Little Women, Zeffireli in Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch, and Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's Dune. So before he's a household name, here is my personal ranking of Timothée Chalamet's staples.
5. Lady Bird

Although this movie ranks as one of my all time favorites ever, this is a Timothée Chalamet list and he only has a minor role. He plays Lady Bird's (Saoirse Ronan) love interest Kyle Scheible. This character couldn't be farther from him in real life, Kyle is a brooding anti-establishment high school student who doesn't care about anything. He's against cell phones and things like money. He's attractive because he's unattainable. He makes the character very believable and makes it seem like you‘re watching a real person and not an actor portraying a character. The movie itself is incredible, Saoirse exceeds expectations and Greta Gerwig's directing is amazing. The whole movie is absolutely perfect and so easy for anyone to relate to. No matter who you are you can find someone in this story to latch on to. If you don't want to cry, I don't recommend.
4. Hot Summer Nights

This movie transports you to a summer in Cape Cod in the 90s. Timothée plays a central character, "summer bird" Daniel Middleton. He gets in with a drug runner and is in store for the summer of his life. He has to navigate tough relationship with his best friends', aforementioned drug runner, sister Mckayla Strawberry (Maika Monroe). Despite being explicitly told to stay away from Mckayla, Daniel just can't resist. The plot builds up the entire movie to a crashing, shocking end. This is one of those movies that maybe isn't worthy of awards, but you can't stop watching it. It reminded me personally so much of my hometown, down to the very finest details like fireworks on a thursday night, that I immediately latched onto it. Maybe in that sense, I'm biased but I just love this movie and get a real thrill out of watching it.
3. Beautiful Boy

Based on a true story, Timothée Chalamet plays strung out meth addict Nic Sheff. This performance was absolutely incredible, you felt his pain throughout this movie. If you want a taste of it just look up "Beautiful Boy diner scene". The raw emotion is there and you can feel it with every fiber of your being. He gave this performance his all and really did not disappoint. He was so committed to giving an authentic performance he lost 18 pounds for the role, and was reportedly hospitalized. The only thing disappointing is that he was snubbed out of an Oscar nomination for this breathtaking performance. Even Peter Travers couldn't understand the Academy's reason for not nominating him. He wondered if they were punishing him for being such an incredible talent at such a young age. This movie and his performance are bound to give you chills.
2. Miss Stevens

This movie absolutely deserves more recognition than it gets. In my opinion, it's so good and really showcases his talent. Timothée plays a troubled teenager named Billy Mitman who on a class trip forms a unlikely connection with his teacher, Miss Stevens (Lily Rabe). I don't want to give that much away about the movie because I think everyone should see it, but there is one thing I have to talk about. At the end of the movie Billy gives a stunning performance of a monologue from Death of a Salesman. It is incredible acting and can easily make everyone in the room go silent. Once again, it is a display of raw emotion and just takes it to the next level. I can't stress this enough, see this movie!
1. Call Me By Your Name

There's not much I can even put into words about this movie. Everything about it is simply breathtaking and so well done. It was Timothée's breakout role as Elio Perlman. If you want to truly understand his acting, this is the one to watch. He plays the role to perfection and is only elevated by Armie Hammer's excellent performance as Oliver. There's nothing else that is quite like this film, everything falls so perfectly together. I have to mention the soundtrack because it is just so angelic. This movie is everything you could hope it would be and definitely a must-see! The relationship between Oliver and Elio seems other-worldly and there's nothing I can say to do it justice.
