The true story of how a young Pakistani boy, Javed Khan (Viveik Kalra), was inspired by Bruce Springsteen's music will have you smiling ear to ear. By the end my cheeks hurt and were tear-stained. This movie had everything you could want, comedy, drama, and great music.
This is by far my favorite movie so far in 2019. It had so much heart. There's a lot of critics that have something to say about the execution and the technical film aspects, but to me a movie doesn't need all that to be great. A great movie has dynamic characters, a soul, and a story that gets you so deeply invested because you feel as if you could've lived it. The writing and acting were incredible and pulled the emotion out of you. I don't want to give much away about the plot because I feel like everyone should see it, especially if you're from New Jersey. There was a moment in the film where the main characters visit Asbury Park and Freehold, I can't imagine sitting in a theater anywhere else other than in Monmouth County and watching this. It added a whole other layer to it and had the entire theater laughing as Javid was enthralled over The Stone Pony, a audience dynamic you couldn't find anywhere else.
Overall, this movie was really fantastic and so fun to sit in the theater watching. With a runtime of just shy of two hours I never once thought about the time, the movie flew by. It gets you from the first moment. I left the theater wanting to go right back in and see it again, and again, and again. I'm sure this movie will go down as one of the most underrated films and performances in recent years. I can't stress this enough, support this film!
