Last night was the 2019 IHeartRadio Music Awards and it was not short on starpower. Everyone stepped out for this show. The performances were nothing short of amazing and acceptance speeches were tear-jerkers. The highlights were by far Alicia Keys, Halsey, and Taylor Swift. It’s no surprise the ceremony was dominated by strong women.

Alicia Keys took home the award for Innovator. She was presented the award by Jamie Foxx and was shown a beautiful video montage of her career. She gave an impassioned speech about how at the start of her career no one would consider her even close to an innovator. They wanted her to conform and check the boxes but she shot against it. Shortly after, Alicia came out to perform her song “Raise A Man”. She brought her 8 year-old son Egypt out onto the stage to play piano for her. It was a touching moment and only accompanied by beautiful vocals and imagery.

Halsey opened up the show with her hit song “Without Me”. For the second half of her performance she brought out her boyfriend Yungblud to finish it out. Despite having her dress break while onstage, it didn’t bother her at all and she killed her performance. She came back onto the stage later in the night to accept the “Fangirls” Award. She gave a teary-eyes speech about accepting fangirls as she was once one. She asked people not to just dismiss something as ridiculous just because a young girl likes it.

My personal favorite moment from the show was Taylor Swift accepting her award for Tour of the Year. She was presented the award by her personal friend Maren Morris. It was also given a visual aid of Taylor’s tour. When she went up to accept the award for her record breaking tour, she had a lot to say. She talked about how before the tour started all the media would say is that the tour was going to “flop” and that she would be playing to “mostly empty stadiums” and that overall it would just fail. Not only did her tour have great success it became the highest selling tour in the US of all time. She dedicated her speech and her award to her fans and teased that new music was on the horizon.

They didn’t do a good job of promoting the show. I didn’t even know it was happening.
