The Comparison of Women in Music.

In honor of International Women's Day, I'm going to address a topic that is not talked about enough. The unnecessary comparison of very successful women in the music industry. Every single day when I scroll through twitter I see people arguing over who's the most successful, or the best vocalist, or the "queen of pop". Not only do they compare the artists, but they drag down the other women to make their favorite artist look better. It's toxic and ridiculous.
I see most of the comparisons happening between Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Lady Gaga. There are other artists thrown in the conversation on occasion but mainly those 4 women. It's so aggravating seeing people saying terrible things about any of these women who all have different strengths and worked incredibly hard to get where they are. They should be united in the music industry and their fans should want to not only see them, but other women succeed. For example, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift cannot even be compared because they're so different, it's almost ridiculous. Ariana Grande is obviously a fantastic vocalist and really has a big range. Taylor Swift is an incredible songwriter and puts meaning and deep thought into every song, even the ones that are "made for radio", she tell's stories. They both have their strong points and shouldn't be pitted against each other.
It's exhausting seeing people try and put them down. It's like they have nothing better to do than hate on people they don't know. In the future I wish that these women could be brought together and considered great instead of having to single one out as the best. It's only harmful to ourselves to do this. We fight for women to be equal to men but how can we be equal to men if we can't even be equals with each other?
