June 14th is a good day for music! Taylor Swift released her second single off her highly anticipated seventh album Lover, The Driver Era released a single off their debut album X, and Scotty Sire put out his first single following the release of his debut album in October, Ruin Your Party.
First up is Taylor's single, "You Need to Calm Down".

This song is absolutely not what I expected, it has a fun synth-pop 80s vibe to it. It took me two listens to really soak in what the song is about, which is homophobia. Taylor continues to use her voice to speak out about politics. The whole song is telling people who are so disgusting homophobic that they "need to calm down". In one of the verses it becomes abundantly clear how she feels about the topic, "Sunshine on the street at the parade, but you would rather be in the dark ages, making that sign, must've taken all night... 'cause shade never made anybody less gay". The song is perfectly setting the tone for the rest of this era while also becoming a pride month anthem. I also don't think it was a coincidence that she decided to release the song on Trump's birthday. This song is available every where you purchase music, or just tell Alexa "play the new Taylor Swift"!

Next up from The Driver Era, "Nobody Knows".

I had the absolute pleasure of hearing this song live before it's release on The Driver Era's tour this past March/April. This song became one of my instant favorites and I couldn't wait to hear it each of the three shows I attended. You can ask anybody that had their ear talked off about it in line next to me, I really love this song. It's the perfect dance song with a fun and adorable chorus, "she wants to dance like a mad man, he wants to dance like his girlfriend". It got me moving and blowing my vocal chords out at every show. Naturally I couldn't wait to hear the studio version, which did nothing but impress me and bring me right back to my shows. It is such a fun bop and of course some cool elements came with the studio version, like muffled talking in the background that added to the uniqueness of the track. I'll have this song on repeat for the rest of the summer no doubt. You can find this song anywhere you purchase music!

Finally, Scotty Sire's "Notice Me".

I thought I knew what to expect when going into this song from hearing his previous releases, but this is truly not like anything I've ever heard from Scotty. First thing is the lyrics which I knew would be well crafted, the chorus is what really ties it together, "won't you notice me, please I just want to be seen... I'm not who I used to be". The song lyrics are refreshing because it's not about making a catchy song, but releasing real feelings. The thing that shocked me the most was when the first chorus kicked in and I heard the vocals on the track, I didn't know Scott had these vocals considering his strong suit had always been rapping. It made my jaw drop when I heard it. When you match it with the strong production and electronic elements it makes an incredible song. It's definitely a vibe. You can find it anywhere you buy music!
