The long running beloved TV drama Shameless just lost the matriarch of their family. Shameless follows the crazy life of the Gallagher family living on the Southside of Chicago. The family is under the guidance of Fiona, the oldest daughter. The show explores the troubles they go through being brought up the way they were. Emmy Rossum who has played Fiona Gallagher for 8 seasons has finally just parted ways with the show. This is following the departure of original character Ian Gallagher played by Cameron Monaghan. It's hard to think about how the show can possibly go on with the loss of Emmy.
Just a few years ago Emmy made headlines when she was battling to be paid the same as her male counterpart William Macy. She was eventually given her pay raise and resolved her issues with the network and show.
Emmy broke the news in a long social media post at the beginning of season 8. She said that she enjoyed playing Fiona immensely and to think of it like she's just "moving down the block".
Personally, I can't see how the show will go on more than one other season after the departure of two major characters. Fiona was always the leader of her family and was the glue of the show. She's the main character and her actions effect everyone else. It's a huge blow to the show to lose her. It's going to be very interesting to see how the show decides to steer the plot from now on, this is only the second major loss they've had since the show started.
What do you think the writers should do? Do you think they should end it without her? Leave your comments below!
I hate to see Fiona go. She was a great character with many highs & lows during her 8 seasons. It is amazing that the cast has been together for so long. The show will most likely end in a season or two. Unless your the Simpsons most shows don’t last more than 10 years. If they do continue, as long as Frank is on the show they will have plenty of storylines.
